πŸ’« Today's Bright Leader is Lizzo! Charismatic and confident, Lizzo is a Champion for body positivity and equal rights, and an amazing musician 🌈🎢

🎡 Born Melissa Jefferson on April 27, 1988, Lizzo lived in Detroit until she was 10, when her and her family moved to Houston, Texas. After listening to gospel music at home, taking flute lessons, and playing in her school's marching band, Lizzo began rapping and formed Cornrow Clique with her friends when she was only 14! It was around this time that Melissa became Lizzo, a cross between "Lissa" and Jay-Z's "Izzo (H.O.V. A.).", and a star was born 🌟

πŸŽ“ When she finished high school, Lizzo began studying Classical Flute Performance at The University of Houston until sadly, her Father passed away when she was only 21. In 2011 she moved to Minneapolis looking for a fresh start, and quickly became a big part of the city's thriving music scene. While performing with several different groups, Lizzo collaborated with some big names to release her September 2013 debut album, Lizzobangers, πŸ’Ώ earning her local and national acclaim.

πŸ’½ Lizzo went on to work with Prince on his album and was a guest on a few other artist's tracks leading up to her next album release in 2015, Big Grrrl Small World, propelling her into the mainstream. With her newfound larger audience, Lizzo became an advocate for body positivity and self-love, drawing from her own body image struggles while growing up. Lizzo has made diversity the focus of her music, in regards to one's body, sexuality, race, and more, and her group of back-up dancers, the Big Grrrls, consists of all plus-size dancers ✨
πŸ†πŸ†πŸ† In 2019 Lizzo released Cuz I Love You, which peaked atΒ #4Β on the Billboard Charts. She added her 2017 single "Truth Hurts" to the deluxe version of the album, and it became Lizzo's first number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100!! Lizzo became the 3rd female rapper to top the Hot 100 without a featured artist, AND "Truth Hurts" spent seven weeks atop the Hot 100, tying for the most weeks at number one for a rap song by a female artist. She has won multiple Grammy's, BET Awards, an Emmy, and many more accolades for her extraordinary talent.
